| Structex Metro have recently completed the design for the new Southern Cross Hospital Endoscopy building in Christchurch. This multi-million dollar five storey building includes a half depth basement, suspended car parking deck and theatre suites.
The structure incorporates a low damage precast component (PRESSS technology), to ensure that the building remains functional after a one in 1000 year seismic event. This innovative new construction concept compared favorably with conventional methods, in reducing structural member sizes, steel reinforcing content and other benefits. Time, cost and ease of build are advantages that will be keenly sought by other clients.
This relatively new technology has not been use before in the South Island and Structex engineers have worked closely with Stefano Pampanin of Canterbury University in their development of the structural design for this building.
