| Structex’s innovative design in structural steel provided both savings and benefits to client and contractor, such as significantly reducing the foundation structure leading to less time on the ground, less disruption and many cost savings. It increased the speed and advancement of construction, given that the lighter steel components were easier to transport, crane and erect with limited site access. The structural design pushed the envelope of seismic engineering in New Zealand and is considered to be at the leading edge of seismic steel design. In addition to the approach to the design in relation to the use of steel frames, there are a number of other features of structural design that show innovation. The steel braces were located to suit the building function and form and the efficient sections maximised rentable floor areas, benefits that will be realized fully by the operator in space utilisation. Structex has developed a solution that is efficient, adaptable, cost-effective, quick to construct and has enhanced building functionality and form. Apart from the use of steel itself, there are a number of other environmental benefits that feature in this design, such as the unique inclusion of carstackers for onsite parking.
