George Manning Lifecare

Location
Spreydon, Christchurch

The George Manning Lifecare complex was damaged by liquefaction and lateral stretching towards the Heathcote River after the February 2011 earthquake. Starting after the February earthquake Structex provided assessments on the condition of the buildings, advised and oversaw repairs, assessed the seismic strength, and designed strengthening for the existing buildings.

The wing closest to the river had the most damage and was replaced with a new structure in 2017/2018 which featured ground improvement using stone columns. Structex provided structural design of the new wing including a new concrete ground floor slab designed to resist deflection due to ground movement.
