Structex was engaged to design an 8 bunk backcountry tramping hut perched high on the Mataketake Range tops, South Westland.

This hut was built in memory of renowned NZ Conservationist Andy Dennis, and funded by his generous bequest.

Situated on the site to take advantage of the amazing views over tussock tops and out to the Tasman Sea, this provided a challenge for the structural design to sustain the extreme wind, earthquake and snow design loads while using conventional timber framed construction methods.
